Industry Leaders Nominated for 2017 XBIZ Awards

We are clearly in awards season, and there seems to be a new round of nominations every few days. Not that we are complaining…

As an aside, here is a random thought for this season… whether it be Cybersocket Awards, iDate Awards, GAYVN Awards or today with the XBIZ Awards announcement, the gay market is a key staple now in our business.

Years back, that was not the case. The gay market was strong, but generally ran as a separate player in the online entertainment industry – separate but equal, I guess. Many people in the industry stood by the value of their audience and product, and pushed the value of this segment, not as a niche, but to reveal it for what is was – and remains – a relevant and successful business segment on its own.

Companies like AVN held separate shows like the GAYVN Summit, and we held the Gay Phoenix Forum, but both companies made the choice to incorporate the shows into their larger market shows, Internext Expo and The Phoenix Forum. We have seen this same trend in other businesses, in which they spin off separate brand from their main brand for the gay market, and while the business in the gay market is good, they realize the value of connected the different segments together is actually higher. Better together, so to speak.

And seemingly in parallel to the rest of gay rights progress, the inclusion of gay with straight has grown and evolved. We now see joint ventures, and business deals across lines. The dual market industry opportunities are broader and, in my opinion, we are better for it as an overall market. Looking back at 2016, the gay market is pretty much an equal partner in the overall industry. Not as large obviously, but equal in profitability and success.

But to get back to the original thought on today’s awards; this is not XBIZ’s first year doing this, but as an industry leader, XBIZ embraces prominently a large a series of categories of gay businesses, studios, directors, even manufacturers in its extensive lineup.

We are excited to see many of our friends in the nominations – and thrilled to see so many CCBill merchants on the list. Many of these peers have grown and thrived over the years and it means a lot to us to see this kind of recognition for their efforts.
